About Anaya Singh
In my portfolio, I wanted to capture the allure of Indian culture, finding beauty in the ordinary and the extraordinary alike. Motivated by familial stories, trips to India, and a desire to reconnect with my heritage, I began to explore mundane moments and cultural festivities with a newfound appreciation. From more abstract interpretations to intricately detailed renderings through the use of various mediums, my artwork reflects a kaleidoscope of saturated colors, shapes, and cultural motifs, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the richness of Indian aesthetics.
Through bold use of color, dynamic compositions, and nods to tradition, I seek to evoke a sense of wonder and curiosity in viewers, regardless of their familiarity with Indian culture. Each piece aims to serve as a testament to the complexity and vibrancy of Indian life, although they may do so in very different ways. Even in my more abstracted piece “Dussehra,” to the detailed drawing of my mother in “Wedding Day,” I want the viewer to easily be able to extract the visual beauty of the moment in either circumstance, as well as feel a sense of nostalgia and cultural reverence.
By creating a visual dialogue that transcends cultural boundaries, I aspire to foster cross-cultural connections and mutual appreciation. Through my art, I aim to bridge the gap between unfamiliar audiences and the rich traditions of India, sparking curiosity and igniting a newfound appreciation for the beauty of diversity. Ultimately, I hope to create a space where viewers can not only admire the visual beauty of Indian culture but also forge connections to a broader global community and the plentiful expressions of human creativity.
